More about the Word Limit and Criteria for Our Portfolio at Hagley Writers’ Institute: 14 August 2021

So with all the crap going on in the world right now, this seems kinda trivial, but here we go.

Our class (finally) received our end-of-course portfolio requirements / limitations. Like I said last week, there is a 40,000 word maximum limit… and we found out today, that’s if you are writing a novel.

For short stories — which is what I am writing, an anthology of short stories — we are allowed approximately 5 short stories of 3,000 to 5,000 words each. So 25,000 words maximum.

I have like 14 stories in one stage or another, with 1 pretty much done and 6 completely done at the first draft stage.

Our class spoke to our tutor about it today (and it sounds like she doesn’t agree with the restrictions / rules), and some of us didn’t sound too thrilled about it all.

Anyway… I’ve decided to be a dick and include more than 5 stories 😛
